Rwenzori Mountains Trekk
Description
Mpanga forest central reserve is a wonderful gateway for nature lovers and it’s located a long Masaka high way, it’s a 7 minutes’ drive from Mpigi town to Mpanga Forest. It has an impressive biodiversity area with over 400 tree species and shrubs, 300 species of birds, 97 butterflies, and 112 moths. Three species of monkeys can be seen in the forest including Vervet, Red-tailed and Black-and-white Colobus monkeys. The 453 hectares of this forest is situated in Mpigi District, Mpambire, 37 km southwest of Kampala City and is accessed by road about one hour’s drive from the capital Kampala or Entebbe.
Our trips start from Entebbe or Kampala, where we drive for about one hour and thirty minutes to get to the site. After we have arrived and made payments at the office, we head into the forest with the local site guide and start searching for birds. This forest has 300 species and these include: Great Blue, Ross’s and Black-billed Turaco, Black-and-white Casqued, Pied, and Crowned Hornbills, Fire-Crested Aleth ,Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Buff-throated Apalis, White-throated Greenbull, Fraser’s Thruth, Shining Blue Kingfisher, Cassins’ Hawk Eagle, African Crowned Eagle, Eastern Plantain Eater, Blue-throated Roller, Olive Sunbird, among others. The walk takes about 1-3 hours and can be extended to the open land when you have time to bird and discover other savanna, open vegetation species.

Arrival - Welcome to Uganda
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, meet &greet by your driver guide and proceed to accommodation about 7 minutes away. Depending on the time of arrival and your preference, we may have optional butterfly viewing around Entebbe Botanical Gardens. Families of butterflies found here include; Swallowtails such as Green Banded Swallow-tail, Narrow Green Banded Swallowtail, Emperor Swallowtail, Mocker Swallow-tail etc. Nymphalidea such as Pearl Charaxes, White barred Charaxes, and other Charaxes, Lycaenidea, Pieridae and skippers. A variety of curated animals at the Zoo that can't be missed include; the tigers, african lions, the leopards, buffalos, antelopes, the Shoebill among others. Birds that can be seen at the botanical garden include: Starling, Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, Yellow, Creamy White-eyes, Scarlet-chested, Olive, Green Sunbirds, Double-toothed Barbet, Black and White Casqued Hornbill, Woodland, Pygmy, Pied Kingfishers, Blue-spotted Wood Dove, Vieillot’s Black, Slender-billed, Golden-backed, Holub’s Golden Weavers, Grey-headed Sparrow, Sunbird, Grey Woodpecker, Eastern Grey Plantain Eater, Alpine, Palm, White-rumped Swifts, Palmnut Vulture, African Green Pigeon and many others. Overnight at Lake Victoria View Guest House (Bed and Breakfast).
